A FISHING TRADITION
Combine these traits; A native of Estes Park, three generations of Rocky Mountain fishing, 35-years in the fishing business and you get a perspective on all types of trout fishing that is totally unmatched in the area. This experience is yours to explore when you visit Scot's Sporting Goods. Many of our flies are meticulously hand tied by some very good local tiers who have fished and observed the aquatic insect life in the area for years. People like Suzanne Williams, Carla Anderson, Austin Condon and most of all Mom(Gladys Ritchie now retired), have contributed to our unique selection of flies. Some of these flies cannot be found anywhere else. We also carry many great lines of fly fishing equipment such as Sage, Cortland, St. Croix and we are also a CORTLAND CERTIFIED FLY SHOP.
In addition, we also carry a full line of general fishing equipment for the bait, spinning and bubble-fly fishing enthusiast. In short we carry and speak all the different ways to catch trout.
GUIDED FLY FISHING TRIPS
Your fly fishing adventure begins with the small streams and high mountain lakes of Rocky Mountain National Park, the larger Big Thompson River, or the private waters of Sylvandale Ranch. We offer "drive up" fishing where its a short walk to the water or we can hike farther distances and maybe not see another angler all day long. We might catch Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brookies and Cutthroat. There is also an opportunity to catch the rare and endangered Greenback Cutthroat Trout which has been brought back from the brink of extinction. These trips are perfect for the "never ever" fly fishing angler. That's our specialty. Our professional guides will teach you all about the equipment, give you a short basic flycasting lesson, talk about flies, lines, leaders, tippets, knots and give you a lesson in entomology if you're interested. We will teach you how to wade safely, how to read the water, find the fish and how to safely handle and release those beautiful wild trout. We practice catch and release on all of our trips. For the more experienced angler we can just fish, if that's what you are looking for. This is a great way to get your children interested in a sport they can pursue for the rest of their lives, and for the older folks, just another day in paradise!
You can choose from 8, 6 or 4 hour trips, whichever will fit your schedule and will allow you enough time to fully learn and appreciate the joys of flyfishing.

HALF-DAY A great way to get introduced to fly fishing is our 4 hour trip. If you are new to fly fishing or have not yet learned to fish small streams, we will spend the first part of the trip, on the river, learning the different casting techniques to present our fly to those intrepid trout. Then, we take that new knowledge and mix it with our local know how of small stream fly fishing and try to catch a trout. If however, you already know how to cast then we will spend all our time showing you how to catch trout.
SIX HOUR TRIP Want more time on the stream but don't have the time for an all day trip. This is the trip for you. Also, if the 4 hour trip that you signed up for is going to good to stop just talk to your guide and we'll stay on the stream longer at a pro-rated rate.
FULL -DAY TRIPS These trips really give us the time to offer you the true experience of fly fishing the area. Option 1 is an all day hike to the high country of Rocky Mountain National Park where you will fly fish the high mountain lakes and streams for a variety of trout that may include the Greenback Cutthroat. A second option is to fish a number of places in and around Rocky Mountain National Park and go for the GRAND SLAM. This is where you try to catch a Rainbow, a Brook, a Brown and a Greenback all in one day.
PRIVATE WATER FISHING For those who want to catch really big fish we now have access to Sylvandale Ranch. These trips are a full 8 hours long with lunch and drink.
MULTI-DAY TRIPS For a real adventure, how about backpacking into a remote high mountain lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. Here you will help set up camp, cook and spend your time experiencing nature while fly fishing for trout. This is my passion, getting away from the crowds, taking on the elements and catching trout with my friends. These trips require you to be in very good shape, have experience in outdoor camping and not letting a little rain or snow spoil your trip. You will also need to rent or bring your own camping and fishing equipment.
